Part of the ICPV Development Centre is a test facility. This department is equipped with test benches for testing dynamic and static strength, a test bench for safety against the derailment in curves and a brake test stand.

All wagon components relevant for safety are tested in this facility which applies the standards set by the UIC (International Union of Railways) and Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV – Association of German Transport Companies):

    • Wheelsets
    • Wheel bearings
    • Brakes
    • Underframe / bogie frame
    • Suspension springs / spring holder
    • Draw gear
    • Buffer gear
    • Railcar bodies
    • Roof
    • Doors

The tested freight wagons are labelled in accordance with the UIC classification of railway coaches. Along with the relevant class, this code specifies the maximum speed permissible, equipment and load size, expressed as a combination of letters, as well as with the holder (rightful owner) code and information on usage, all combined in 12-digit UIC wagon number. Together with the load limit panel, this information is displayed along both sides of the freight wagons.
